To
calculate the QSD, first divide the basal area of the diameter class by the number of
trees in the class to find the basal area of the average
tree. Then the dbh = 2 x {square root (basal area/3.142)}. For example, the dbh of a
tree of basal area of 707 cm2 = 2 x {square root (707/3.142)} = 30 cm.
