Hi there! Chef Ken here, at your service. I've spent years in professional kitchens and my own, whipping up delicious and healthy meals. Avocado mayo is a favorite of mine – a creamy, flavorful, and healthier alternative to traditional mayonnaise.
Making avocado mayo is really simple, and I'm happy to walk you through it. Here's what you'll need:
Ingredients:*
1 large ripe avocado, pitted and scooped This is your base, so make sure it’s perfectly ripe – gently soft to the touch, but not mushy.
* **2 tablespoons of fresh lime or lemon juice** This adds a bright, citrusy kick that cuts through the richness of the avocado. Freshly squeezed juice is always best!
*
1-2 tablespoons of water This helps to achieve that perfect mayonnaise consistency.
*
1 small garlic clove, minced (optional) If you’re a garlic lover like me, this adds a wonderful savory depth.
*
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste Adjust this based on your preference and the saltiness of your other ingredients.
*
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste A touch of black pepper adds a bit of warmth and complexity.
Instructions:1. Prepare your avocado: Cut the avocado lengthwise around the seed. Twist the two halves to separate. Carefully remove the seed. Scoop the avocado flesh into a food processor or blender.
2. Add remaining ingredients: Add the lime or lemon juice, water, garlic (if using), salt, and pepper to the food processor or blender with the avocado.
3. Blend until smooth: Secure the lid and blend the mixture until it becomes completely smooth and creamy. You might need to stop and scrape down the sides a few times to ensure everything is incorporated.
4. Adjust consistency: If the avocado mayo is too thick, add an extra tablespoon of water at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
5. Taste and adjust seasoning: Give the avocado mayo a taste and adjust the salt, pepper, or lime/lemon juice to your liking. Remember, you can always add more, but you can’t take it away!
6. Store properly: Transfer the avocado mayo to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Tips for the Best Avocado Mayo:*
Use high-quality avocados: The flavor and creaminess of your avocado mayo depend heavily on the quality of your avocados.
*
Don't over-blend: Over-blending can make the avocado mayo warm and slightly bitter, so blend until just smooth.
*
Get creative with flavorings: Feel free to experiment with other herbs and spices! Cilantro, cumin, paprika, or even a dash of cayenne pepper can add a unique twist.
*
Use it in countless ways: Avocado mayo is incredibly versatile! It's delicious as a spread on sandwiches and wraps, a dip for vegetables or chips, a sauce for tacos or burritos, or even as a base for dressings and salads.
Enjoy the vibrant flavor and healthy fats of your homemade avocado mayo!
