If not enough oxygen gets to your brain, a condition known as hypoxia can occur. Hypoxia can lead to various symptoms and complications, depending on the severity and duration of the oxygen deprivation. Some of the immediate effects include confusion, shortness of breath, and rapid heart rate. Prolonged or severe hypoxia can lead to loss of consciousness, seizures, brain damage, and even death.
