As a coastal geomorphologist with extensive experience in studying coastal processes, I can provide an informed perspective on the topic of longshore drift.
Longshore drift is a natural process that involves the movement of sediment along a coastline due to wave action. It is important to understand that longshore drift is not erosion itself; rather, it is the transportation of sediment that has been eroded from elsewhere. The impact of longshore drift can be considered both beneficial and detrimental, depending on the context and location.

Longshore drift is NOT erosion. Erosion removes material from a coast which is then transported by
longshore drift. Whether it is good or
bad depends where you are.
Longshore drift moves sediment along a coast; if you have large beaches then you don't want it to be moved elsewhere.
